....the rest of the story

Well it seems (according to my sister) that I need to tell the whole story about our trip to Devils Racetrack. As I said in my last blog, we decided to take another 4-wheeler ride, we unloaded our bikes between 1 or 2 in the afternoon, so we definitely got a late start on the ride. There was Steve, myself, my sons Tony and Chris, and my granddaughter Ashley. Tony and Chris informed us that we would be making a big loop on this trail. The first part of the ride wasn't really that bad most of the ride was in a large wash, with a whole lot of sand. We stopped a few time enjoyed the scenery and maybe had a snack. After time spent in the wash we had some rocky areas but nothing compared to what we were going to be getting ourselves into later on. And little did I realize that as it came around to the 7 pm hour we were still not quite to the half way mark of the ride. About the time we did make it to the half way point we were sitting on top of a mountain, we still had to get back down, and the sun was setting fast. We started our way down, and believe me it was slow going. We crept over rocks, and I mean crept slow, and in some places it was like descending down steep steps. Night finally came and we still had quite a ways to go, and a lot more rocks to descend down. I think one of the boys said that it took us a couple of hours just to come down about 3 miles. When we did finally make it to the bottom of the mountain and back to the wash it was 11:30 pm, and once again my sons informed me that we still had about an hour ride back to the truck. Not really dressed for evening riding, I had only brought a lite jacket, Steve was wearing shorts (luckily Chris had brought along a pair of sweats), because the last hour of that ride was chilly. I was never so glad to get back to the truck, get the bikes loaded and head home. We didn't pull into our driveway until about 2 in the morning. Oh and did I also mention that this day was also mine and Steve's 33rd wedding anniversary? An anniversary and a ride I will never forget. And by the way Tony and Chris I think I will stick to the level and groomed trails from now on!

Well, aren't you guys just the adventurous sort! Those scenery pictures were beautiful...you only get that sort of scenery in the west.

Sorry that trip was so long....but what a great story it makes!

Thanks for telling the "Rest of the Story"....does it kind of make you feel like Paul Harvey?
