Missing My Blog

I decided maybe it's about time I check in on my blog and see if anything has happened since I was last here. Apparently almost a year has passed, and I realize I have missed posting on here. And have missed reading others post. Guess it's time to find some things to share.

Spiders and Trick or Treaters!

Well the end of October came with another birthday, Kalib just had his 3rd birthday on the 30th. Which meant another birthday cake to make. Not sure what I've gotten myself into. Anyway this was a no brainer anything to do with Halloween for this cake is sure to be a hit. Do I do a scary pumpkin, ghost, goblin, or bat? How about a
SPIDER CAKE
that's sure to scare the birthday boy. Not! Nope not scary enough, but it at least brought a smile to Kalib's face. Now it's time to prepare for
HALLOWEEN NIGHT
and the
TRICK OR TREATERS
who will come a calling. Goodies are ready and the trick or treater arrive. Kalib has come as Bumble Bee from the movie Transformers.I think this scary guy is really Cole, or some monster trying to get away with Cole's goodies.Ashley and Paige make a stop in before going and joining their friends for an evening of Trick or Treating.
And finally after a long evening of tricks and collecting of their treats Princess Danyle, Pirate Preston and a very tired Ninja Keihin stopped by Grandma and Grandpa's to get the last of their loot.
I love Halloween! Heck I love all the holidays, and the kids are the ones that make the holidays special!

Better Late Than Never

Only one month and about a week later I finally got my grandson Cole's birthday cake made. I wasn't able to get his cake made last month with the other September birthday's, because Cole's birthday fell during the time I was out of town for work. I have tried for the last couple of weeks to get his cake made but something has always come up. Even a little late I don't think he mind it one bit, in fact I think he was a little surprised when the cake was brought out. He had forgotten all about it. And how many kids get a bithday cake when it's not even their birthday?

Hunting for the Cache

This last weekend geo caching turned into quite the family affair. With autumn in the air and knowing that winter is just around the corner, we thought it might be a good idea and get out and do something while the weather permits. Steve and I have been caching for about the last 4 years, and the kids and grand kids have join us on many occasions. This time however Tony has his own GPS so it was up to him to lead the way and we would follow. We headed out late Saturday afternoon to do a few caches relatively close to home.Jennifer, Ashley and Paige are doing their logging and trading at this cache called the "Cat House", the cache was a small tin house someone made and hid in the rocks. Saturday evening came fast and the last cache for the day was found. Steve and I were at our 99th cache, but tomorrow we would shoot for 100 and maybe add a few more! ... Sunday afternoon and we are off once again in search for more caches. One of the first caches of the day is located on the other side of a canal with very few volunteers to cross over. Ashley, Paige, and Steve sacrifice the cold water for the cache. Another cache found and logged in. In the back ground of this photo is Pinnacle Peak before the day is over we will be right up next to it and then above on a ridge over looking it.Tony, Kalib and Cole taking 5 before heading out for the next GPS location. I really think these guys use the same barber!A few more miles Pinnacle Peak getting closer and in the trees somewhere a cache is buried....the cache is a 5 gallon bucket buried in the ground. There is a little excitement to see what treasures others have left behind, and who and when someone was there last. Most of the caches this day we could either drive almost right up to them or was a short hike, but the second to last this day just about did me in. It was only .30 of a mile away from the vehicles, but was up a canyon that seemed to be nothing but rocks.Lots and lots of rocks that you had to climb over, go around, and I'm sure some you even had to go under. Kalib just amazed me there was no rock to big that this 3 year old was not going to climb. He did the hike up and back powered by his own two legs. So much better than his Grandma. I'll have to admit that I gave up with only about a .10 of a mile to go, I'd just had enough rock climbing for the day. So while everyone when on I choose to sit on one of those big rock and wait for their return, and the climb back down. The last cache of the day brought us to a really high ridge or what seemed more like being on top of the world, overlooking Pinnacle Peak and the town we call home. Our list of caches found, evening setting in it was time to head home. Our caches now total 106, and am sure there are may more to be found. Was a fun weekend, geo caching and spending time with the family.

"More Birthdays, More Cakes!"

Well I started something with the making of Tony's Hamburger Birthday cake. I have now committed myself to making everyone in the family their own special Birthday cake. This has really been a lot of fun for me, and the anticipation as the birthday person waits to see what cake awaits them. After Tony's birthday, my grandson Keihin had a birthday in August. This cake was a no brainer. What does every little guy like? Any kind of motorized vehicle. Be it cars, trucks, bikes, or tractors, as long has it a vehicle that is all that maters. Thus brought forth the construction site, with backhoe and dump truck to get the job done. Got to move that cake!!Keihin was just tickled with the cake. He was able to eat his cake and play with the vehicles too. With September comes 4 birthdays and 4 cakes!! Now this really shouldn't be a problem because the birthdays don't fall on the same days, but this month I will be out of town for 3 of the 4 birthdays. So we decide to celebrate 3 of the birthdays today, my two daughter-in-laws Kristina, and Jennifer and my granddaughter Ashley. So with thinking cap on and asking myself what does every women like? It hit me all women love purses, so for Tina and Jen I made purse cakes. And of course for my granddaughter who want to be a pilot, something to do with airplanes was the cake for her.

No money inside this purses girls, just good old fashion carrot cake!

And Ashley hoping someday you'll be able to get grandma a few free frequent flyer miles. Only Cole's birthday to celebrate for September, I'm pretty sure it will have something to do with vehicles. Go figure!

Giving Cake Decorating a Try

As most know me I love to craft and try my hand out on anything new. Even if I make something once and move on at least I can say I gave it a try. Well my son Tony's birthday was coming up, and I realized that I had not given cake decorating a try. So here was my opportunity, a birthday was just around the corner. I wanted something fun and unique, so with a little help from the internet I did some searching for cakes and decorating. And the end results of my efforts I made this cake for Tony's Birthday..........................................

a Hamburger Cake......

This was so much fun to make can't wait now for my grandson Keihin's birthday this week. I'm going to come up with a cake for him. Might just give it a try for every birthday......going to have alot on my plate for September with 4 birthdays.

Needless to say this cake served for both dinner and dessert this evening.
